The Global Bangemann Challenge - Stockholm
Finalist in the Public Access and Democracy Category for the Global Bangemann Challenge; an annual event hosted by the City of Stockholm, Sweden. Michael traveled to Stockholm in June, 1999 to receive the award from the King of Sweden in the Nobel Hall.

Global Information Infrastructure Awards
Finalist (2nd year in a row) for the Global Information Infrastructure Awards in the Public Access category for LinkNet; an on-line service that has introduced over 27,000 people to the Internet in Kitsap County. Held in Chicago, 1997.

National Information Infrastructure Awards
Finalist in the Public Access Category for the National Information Infrastructure Awards for LinkNet, Kitsap Regional Library's On-Line service that offers free e-mail and Internet access to any citizen of Kitsap County. Held in New York City, 1996. Also received a Certificate of Merit from the US Postal Service in the same competition.

Washington Library Association: Emeritus & Merit Awards
Emeritus Award (2005) and the Merit Award for Advances in Library Service (1998) by the Washington Library Association. Secretary of the Association: 1980-1981. Founder of the Automation Resources Interest Group (ARGH!), 1985.

Cybrarian of the Year: 1998
Cybrarian of the Year by MCI Worldcom: included $31,000 in award money for the Kitsap Regional Library, which Michael used to establish workstations for the visually impaired.

Grand Prize: Software
Awarded the Grand Prize: Software Contest (1988) for a comprehensive series of accounting programs used by libraries, Fire Departments, and Park Departments in Washington State. This software has tracked over $1 billion.
