Programs
Readability
Program which measures difficulty level of text material against nine different formulas in use
by the educational and publishing community. Plots graphs and provides answers based on original text
input or via files from word processors. Available for Apple and IBM PC computers.
Published by Micro Power & Light, Inc., Dallas, Texas. This program sold steadily for over
ten years with several thousand copies in print. Today Microsoft has a rudimentary feature in Word
that uses only one of these formulas.

Tracks by Washington State Budget and Reporting System guidelines (BARS). Menu driven, used by
office and accounting personnel. Includes a complete payroll system. Was used at several regional
libraries, a fire district, and a park district, all in Washington State. In its run of 15 years
the program tracked over a billion dollars in expenditures. Grand Prize Winner in Computers in Libraries software contest, 1988.
The Member Tender
Complete program written for organization management, providing mailing labels, organization membership

the Washington Library Association to track 1,000 members for many years. A version was published
by the Meckler Corporation, Westport, CT. Includes manual of operations.
The Label Maker Written after imploring cries for help by technical services personnel,
this program has been in use for over 22 years to print hundreds of thousands of spine labels used
in processing books, a task incapable of being performed by the half-million dollar acquisition and
inventory control system. Menu and database driven.
The Paper Shaper

sophisticated searching and scoping options, and extensive cross-reference capabilities. Written in
cooperation with the Sun newspaper (Kitsap County, Washington) to match requirements of newspapers
as well as libraries.
